Welcome to Occasional Essays in Leadership
The second and third in our series of Occasional Essays are excerpts from Department Chair Leadership Skills (2nd edition) by Walter H. Gmelch and Val D. Miskin. It addresses the Call for Leadership in postsecondary education. The authors note that most departmental chairs have not worked towards or academically prepared for the positions, yet they find themselves in what is arguably one of the most challenging leadership positions possible.
We invite you to subscribe to our Occasional Essays in Leadership. We envision about four issues per year. As we wish to send it to only those who want it, we ask that you subscribe. You will be able to unsubscribe at any time you wish. And, you can feel free to forward it to interested colleagues.
Our premier issue was Hard Times, Tough Decisions by Harry Peterson. As a former college president, Harry offers insights into the difficult and demanding issues associated with trying economic times.
